Folders: Your child will come home each day from school with his/her blue homework folder. Graded papers and items for parents will be in the right pocket of the folder labeled "Keep at Home". Any items that need to be brought back to school will be in the left pocket of the folder labeled "Return to School". The front pocket will be used as a means to send important papers from school or items that you want me to see when your child's folder is checked each morning.
Homework: Homework will be given to the children on Mondays in their blue homework folder. It will be in the "Return" pocket behind your child's Behavior Chart. Your child will have all week to complete the activity. Homework is due by Friday of each week. If your child finishes the activity earlier in the week, it can be returned when it is completed. As the year progresses, homework will increase in difficulty.
Absences: Attendance is VERY important to your child's education. Many of the activities we complete in the classroom are hands-on and cannot be sent home. When your child is absent they are missing unique learning opportunities. Please try to keep this in mind when scheduling appointments. If your child is ill, please call the school office (866-5441) on the day of the absence. If you would like me to send your child's homework home, please call the request in as early as possible to the school office. Also, please allow me enough time to gather your child's classwork together for pick up (an afternoon pick up time would be best or sending the assignments with another student). If you are planning a family vacation or your child will miss school for an extended period of time, missed assignments will be given when your child returns to school. Your child will have as many days to make up missed assignments as days of their absence.
Transportation: If your child will be going home a different way, please send a note to school. If plans change during the day, please call the school office at 866-5441 to notify us of the changes. Please do not e-mail the transportation change to me, as I might not check my e-mail before dismissal time. WE CANNOT SEND A STUDENT HOME A DIFFERENT WAY UNLESS WE HAVE A PARENT NOTE OR PHONE CALL.
Recess: In the winter months we DO try to go outdoors for recess, so PLEASE dress your child accordingly. Students are not sent outside in extreme weather conditions.
Birthdays: We will be celebrating each child's birthday throughout the school year. Please feel free to send treats in on your child's special day. If your child's birthday should fall on one of our days off, a treat may be sent on the day before or after. Please let me know when you are going to send the treat so I can plan for it in our daily schedule. The treats need to be store bought and commercially packaged with the nutritional information on the packaging. Please DO NOT send cupcakes from the grocery store as they are too big for the children to handle and they make a huge mess. Currently, we have 19 students on our class list. The snack will need to be delivered to school by 12:00 p.m. If your child has a summer birthday, we will celebrate his/her birthday during the second semester of the school year.
Book Orders: I will be sending home Scholastic Book Club catalogs at various times throughout the school year. This is strictly voluntary! If you would like to purchase books through the book club, please pay by cash (exact amount please!) or check. Make checks payable to Scholastic Book Clubs. If you are ordering from multiple catalogs, you may send in one payment for the total of all the items being ordered. You may also order online for a larger selection of items and to pay using a debit or credit card. Our class activation code is H39XZ. This is a great way to build your child's home library with quality books at affordable prices!
Volunteer Applications and Background Checks: State law requires parents to complete a volunteer application form in order to volunteer your time in the classroom for projects, parties, field trips, etc. Forms were sent home earlier in the year, but please contact me if you need another form sent home.
Lunch Money: Please send lunch money in an envelope and include your child's name, my name, and the words "Lunch Money" on the front (or use an envelope provided by the school for the Bank-A-Meal program). Lunch money can be paid yearly, monthly, or weekly. You will receive memos when your child's account balance is getting low. You may also pay for your child's meals by using E-funds. Questions regarding lunch and payments can be made to Mrs. Zeider, Director of Food Services, at the administration building (866-7822).
